I predict that after it's Oct./Nov. launch (with flat champagne from sitting around for 3-4 months) that it won't be more than 4 months until the price drops rather dramatically. Hell, it might even be before Christmas as the pre-orders will be underwhellming, to put it nicely.

As to Panther.....pretty.....do I need it? No.

Is Steve taking a page from Bang and Olufsen? Really cool but only for the "really in need of impressing my friends" book. That's a bit harsh but not that far off the mark. And at this rate Apple will have a market share near theirs. I have no idea what that may be but I'll bet it isn't even a whole number.
