We went 10 years ago now. Hard to remember what we did.

It was only a 2 hour flight for us. : )

We stayed in Veradero for a week. I want to say Iberostar, but I can't remember. For most of the week, we just laid on the beach, over consuming mojitos, cristal beer (best beer ever), and whatever other drink they made. A few others on the trip had some cigars.

We went to Havana, and saw revolution square, and the typical sights. We saw all of the cars from the 1950's, and people had it rough there. One of us on the trip (not me) got their hair done in threads style, and paid 20 convertible pesos for 20 min of work. We thought nothing of it. We were told later the average monthly salary is 18 convertible pesos (18 USD)/month. There were people rushing our tour bus and begging for water. We could get top service at the bar because there were no Americans there, Europeans didn't believe in tipping, and we were tipping 1 dollar every time they brought us drinks.

The food wasn't great. The tv show selection was lousy. It was two channels, one showing daily marches with Fidel Castro yelling on the tv about something or another.

My take home was, you go to Cuba to get drunk and lay on a nice beach for a week. Havana was rough, Veradero was nicer.
