The mobile aspect as a draw for new money is one thing. The lack of need for new computers is due to software demands remaining stagnant or even declining.


Ever and ever repeating this doesn't make it true. If it was true, why the hell do I need a 2.5 GHz Quadcore with at least 2 GB RAM on my phone to make it run smooth? That's hardly supporting your claim.

Yes, Modern UI is running fast, it is actually one of the quickest UIs on the market (Windows phones comes along with low specs). The reason for this is optimization on one hand (it is running without virtual machine like .net or Java), on the other hand it is because those apps are far simpler than their desktop versions. One can't compare Photoshop with some photo effects app.

There is a huge potential for optimizing software and it hasn't even been touched so far. That's known since C64 demos. But: It always, no exception, requires effort from the software developer to do this and they simply won't spend that effort when they don't have to (i.e. runs fine on average hardware).
