Yes you are right, those wanting all access conference passes did pay big bucks. I had one of these passes and the conferences were pretty darn packed. With that said, I would venture to guess that 75% of the attendees were there for the exhibitions only which were either free (if registered online) or $20 at the door or last day).

The conference, expo, design show, etc were all a smashing success, just don't get ahead of yourself with the numbers. Here's a good overview:
