This has to do, IMO, with significant complexity built into the instruments themselves required for their use.

If the sports technology simplifies the amount of required complexity within the arms, reusable tips makes sense. Graspers, needle drivers, and similar instrumentation can be reusable; scissors, cautery devices and other sharp and/or insulated devices would be better as reposables
