Texaco (now owned by Chevron) pioneered a tire liquefaction process that dissolves shreds of tire chunks in hot oil to produce both a light oil suitable for gasoline diesel and heating fuel as well as a heavy oil-like tire oil. The leftover components from the process are suitable for producing asphalt. The company also turns tires into fuel via a separate gasifaction process using a slurry made from tires and oil.
