For the life of me,,,I do not understand why the U.S. does not step in and just give the Greeks a couple billion.

We give this kind of money to other bottomless pits around the world. A few billion isn't gonna make a difference to us, and it might help Europe financials to stay out of trouble till a more lasting arrangement can be made.

We stick our noses everywhere else, why not here.
