I had my rotator cuff surgery at Andrews this week. This included the introduction of my mesenchymal stem cells from my iliac crest. This plus platelet rich plasma. No offer was made to provide stem cells from adipose tissue, either collected and made available via an enzymatic method or cavitational. I specifically asked. In fact, I was told that no adipose based stem cell method was available at Andrews. This was due to some problems that they had with outcome. Apparently after some trials, the adipose based stem cells grew large fat globules instead of assisting in the development of the cartilage needed in the area.
I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at Andrews. The level of professionalism at this Institute is second to none in my opinion. In so far as the research Institute, I understand that they are on their bullet list and that is ready to open any day. If intellicell's method is going to be assessed in that Institute, I can't tell. It is my impression that Dr. Anz is likely going to focus on mesenchymal stem cells and perhaps Dr. Andrews may focus on adipose tissue. I'm not sure. However, it did not sound promising.
This was my own DD. I did not pursue it aggressively because it was in the context of my health care. Rather, I was more focused on allowing them to help me repair my shoulder.
My doctor was very balanced in his presentation of the research and encourage me to do my own research. I had to pay for the stem cells myself.I felt to push this issue would have been inappropriate. However, I did ask enough questions to ferret out the above detail. Use it with those cautions in mind.
Let me add that were I to need any additional services regarding my health care as it related to joint reconstruction or rehabilitation, I would not hesitate to quickly return to the Andrews Institute. I don't believe that I have ever been so impressed with the quality and breadth of knowledge and available services as I was there.
