I wonder if Mark and the AutoCAD guys cross paths. Autodesk has been building a 3d database for decades. I understand that they are on different points in the process, but there are quite a few parallels here in my opinion. Autodesk has infrastructure in place that has a global community collaborating to develop and use huge amounts of data for prototyping and manufacturing. I imagine all the current partners (GE, Honeywell etc...) use the CAD guys already.

The move to subscription based selling at Autodesk could be a great business model for up and coming companies like Sigma. Maybe Parametric or Autodesk might be interesting partners and good sources of guidance. Maybe Sigma could be part of a one stop shop for some of these manufacturers. AutoCAD with Sigma inside? Just rambling along.
