I have posted several times here that stocks can still trade on defunct companies as long as the parties agree and pay the fees.

Sure they can. Check out MTEI:

The company went out of business in August 1998, after having been suspended by the SEC. The SEC later successfully sued the principals.

Yet the stock still trades occasionally. The SEC should revoke its registration, but who knows if they'll ever get round to that.
