Vancouver’s dispensaries are, to a man, illegal, and they have no trouble admitting as much. They are fed by MMAR patients selling their medicine for profit, and by gangs selling their ditchweed by the trashbag full. They are opened next to homes, schools, and churches. They are run by nobody knows who. They are largely staffed by guys with neck tattoos and Affliction t-shirts, or barely awake dreadlock crusties who claim to be naturopaths. Their profits go who knows where. There are no standards, no rules, no regulations, no background checks, no records kept of how much is sold to who, and we’ve already seen evidence of some customers reselling their medicine to children. I’ve heard anecdotal evidence of dispensaries sending customers to an online doctor based out of India for their scrips.

They are not ‘compassion clubs’, bar one or two that have been operating for chump change since the early 80’s. They are drug dealers in retail stores. And the City of Vancouver, for political reasons, is not just allowing them but trying to figure out how to lock them in.
