I just don't see the decision by the largest OEM's to go cadmium-free as being solely driven by any short-term RoHS directive. Think about the Consumer Electronics segment! Other than the Chinese (heavy polluters), what companies are going to cede the high ground to the competition? Or allow the other guy(s) to emphasize toxicity issues with "cadmium-free QD's inside" stickers and get boxed in a corner with the buying public. I can hear the 24 year old Best Buy sales rep pitching to Jane Doe now... "These Samsung and LG displays aren't as deadly as those cheaper TCL units." To scientists, toxicity is complicated, to the average person, it is simple and emotional.
IMO, NHM QD's aren't at risk of being de-ephasized anytime soon.
