I believe they still have some work to do and may need to eventually pay royalties to The University Of Notre Dame to ultimately commercialize, but I believe they are at least worth keeping an eye on.

KBLB has an EXCLUSIVE license from Notre Dame for the use of the PiggyBac transposon in silkworms.
NIAS may use it in research, but not for any commercial purpose.
Even the research use is somewhat tainted unless they made prior arrangements with UND.

On the other hand, KBLB has moved far beyond the PigyBac.
They now use the Znf CompoZr tools from Sangamo /Sigma Aldrich, also under exclusive license.
