Interesting coverage, but not worth much.

A. this sound bite is several months old.

B. At first I thought that this was the first mention of numeric results from Spiber, But I do not think it is "Yoshihiko Kawata?" is not a familiar name, not one associated with Spiber. Probably some Grad student at an unnamed Japanese university.

C. The number mentioned is distinctly unimpressive, 1.5 times normal silk in strength. Tensile?
KBLB's first published numbers, likely improved upon by now, were 2.0 times normal silk in tensile strength, = to orb weaver drag line Spider silk (nephila clavipes) in toughness (tensile * elongation) = energy absorption.

Still, Any publicity is good publicity.
