In the field of counseling and psychotherapy, an issue is often about denial or rationalization.

This stock is doing nothing with no indication it will do anything. My own rationalization is that it is no longer worth selling. I am thus stuck with a hope, not assurance, that there might be one last gasp for air. I am thus stuck with a stock that has not produced one iota for profit for week. Buy low is not turning into sell higher and hasn't for weeks.

Wishful thinking doesn't help stocks grow. A company that does something and communicates it is doing something helps a stock grow so investors will jump in an participate.

Another rationalization is, who knows what will happen. It could happen that the company may stumble across success.
