Most likely what happened is: Netflix grew from a DVD mail-order distribution model and didn't know jack about building a P2P network. When they started streaming they built their point-to-point model as a novice streaming company, merely just trying to get into the tech. The DVD distribution was still their badass horse way ahead of everybody else and winning.
Now they're in deep. When you make a change now investors and producers all get butthurt. Every tiny change has a huge impact. It's really really hard for them to make a change to a P2P model now that they know what they're doing.
I think we're all going to make some money here one day. At the moment it is BCCI's turn to take a shot at the brass.
