A little story from late September 2001.
Setting
NYSE floor - The Garage
Shortly after 9/11 Dick Grasso and local politicians often patted themselves on the back by parading through the NYSE floor. I happened to be at the entrance and had person to person view of many well known "royalty".
Rudy Giuliani was the only one that seemed genuine...meaningless.. Most notable was the smug, smirk wearing Chuck Schumer. I was able to audibly say FU.
He heard me,stared right at me. I looked him in the eye with pride and smiled knowing he knew it was me. I got an earful from one of my superiors. WELL worth it
Behind the line-up of abundant douchery were the TRUE heroes. The meaningful parade .The folks that worked at ground zero daily,with daunting tasks that dwarf the bs most deal with in a day,let alone years. The contrast was profoundly enlightening and highlighted how public servants can add value. Royalty only adds value to itself.
