Drano, I completely agree with YOUR reasoning on the matter, and I truly hope that these changes come to pass.

BUT, I hate to say it but what we, the doctors, think with regards to our patient care unfortunately means very little in the end as the insurance companies hold the purse strings.

Too often in medicine these days the treatment my patient gets is not always what I most want (what I believe they need from my training and clinical judgement), but instead what a hospital/insurance bean-counter believes is best ---without a shred of medical training or having ever laid hands on the patient.

That's the only reason I say that about my belief that hospitals will choose the more costly option being unlikely at best.

But I'm always hopeful for positive change.
