Police storm the set of Megadeth’s "Right To Go Insane" video because the band is using a M68a tank. “The cops are here - it can get pretty hairy with this video shoot," says frontman Dave Mustaine reporting live from the scene. The band had neglected to inform authorities about the tank so panic ensued. 2010

1950's London born singer-guitarist Robyn Hitchcock has a birthday. 1953

Hooters guitarist John Lilley is born in West Chester, PA. 1954

Elvis Presley’s RCA debut, "Heartbreak Hotel," enters the Top 100. It starts at #68 but eventually goes to #1. 1956
1960's

Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay form Buffalo Springfield in L.A. The legendary group is recording a year later. 1966

The Rolling Stones start work on "Aftermath" in Hollywood. The album contains "Paint It Black" with Brian Jones on sitar. 1966

The Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart (vocals) and Ron Wood (bass), make their debut in London. Aynsley Dunbar is on drums but he is soon replaced by Mickey Waller. 1967
1970's Elton John makes his first major London appearance at the Royal Albert Hall. He’s backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. 1971

Van Halen launch their debut U.S. tour demanding that M&Ms be available backstage with the brown ones taken out. Probably for health reasons. It starts in Chicago. 1978
1980's

An Oakland Hell’s Angel testifies before the U.S. Senate that the motorcycle gang has a grudge against the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger stemming from ‘69’s tragic Altamont concert. Apparently, there were two failed murder attempts. Seems the Angels can't get any satisfaction either. 1983

“Master Of Puppets” is the third studio album by Metallica. It’s the group's first record to be certified gold for sales of over 500,000 copies but their last to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who dies in a bus crash in Sweden while the group is touring to promote the album. 1986
1990's The B-52’s "Roam" peaks at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 behind Janet Jackson ("Escapade"), Roxette ("Dangerous") and Paula Abdul ("Opposites Attract"); in that order. 1990

Sting holds his 3rd annual Rainforest benefit concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall. In addition to the ex-Police frontman, Don Henley, Bryan Adams and Tina Turner perform. 1993

Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain is rushed to a Rome hospital after lapsing into a coma after overdosing on Rohypnol and champagne. 1994

REM’s drummer Bill Berry undergoes surgery for a brain aneurysm. The ailment forces him to leave the group. 1995

Axl Rose files a counterclaim in Los Angeles against his former Guns N' Roses bandmate Slash to reaffirm his control of the band's copyrights. The singer contends that Slash and ex-GN'R bassist Duff McKagan have filed "baseless lawsuits" against him. "Axl . . . has a responsibility to protect the Guns N' Roses legacy and expose the truth," says Rose's lawyer, who is likely charging by the nano-second. 2006

Fall Out Boy perform a "secret" sold-out show under the name Saved Latin at New York's Knitting Factory. The band's alternate moniker was inspired by a line in the movie Rushmore. 2006

Incubus play their first-ever concert in Iceland. 2007

Peter (Frampton) and the wolf. Frampton narrates a recital of Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf at a library in Independence, KY. The free lunchtime performance features music by the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. 2007

Kid Rock’s attorney enters a not-guilty plea in Georgia's DeKalb County State Court in regard to an ‘07 fight Rock was involved in at an Atlanta Waffle House restaurant. Rock faces a misdemeanor battery charge after being arrested along with members of his entourage five months earlier following an altercation. Rock claims he was provoked. 2008

More legal news. Scott Weiland exits a rehab facility after undergoing treatment for an undisclosed substance problem. The Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver singer faces a charge of driving under the influence of drugs. Two days later he pleads not guilty. 2008

Norman "Hurricane" Smith dies at age 85. He produced Pink Floyd’s first three albums and served as engineer on numerous Beatles recordings. Smith also played drums on Floyd’s '67 song "Remember A Day," and had a ’72 pop hit with "Oh Babe, What Would You Say?" 2008

U2 release “No Line On The Horizon.” The Edge says themes of female empowerment run through "Get On Your Boots," the set’s first single. "It's based around the idea that men have f***ed things up so badly . . . that it's really time we handed things over to women," the guitarist explains. Bono calls “Get Your Boots On” a "blazing, fuzzed-out Rocker." There’s also "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight," which Bono says is "kind of like this album's 'Beautiful Day' -- it has that kind of joy to it." Also, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg honors U2 by rechristening a section of the city's 53rd Street "U2 Way" for the day. Bandmembers are given replica U2 Way street signs at the ceremony. 2009

England's Liverpool Hope University announces a Master of Arts program focusing on The Beatles. Students complete four 12-week modules and write a dissertation in the postgraduate class titled "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society." "Forty years on from their breakup, now is the right time and Liverpool is the right place to study The Beatles," says Mike Brocken, a lecturer at the school. 2009
2010's

The Israeli boycott of Metallica ends peacefully when an agreement is reached to lower ticket prices. The controversy stemmed from fan complaints about the cost of admission for concert at the Ramat Gan Stadium in Tel Aviv. 2010

Though it actually happened four-weeks earlier, My Chemical Romance gets around to announcing that drummer Bob Bryar has left the band. “This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly,” says a post on the band’s website. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you {fans} all to do the same.” 2010

New Orleans based Better Than Ezra launches a Mardi Gras related three-day festival called Krewe of Rocckus. "This is our town, we are connected here," says lead singer Kevin Griffin. 2011

R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe performs at the annual Tibet House U.S. benefit concert at Carnegie Hall. The event is hosted by composer Philip Glass and includes an appearance by Patti Smith. 2011

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler launches a new mobile phone app called "Steven Tyler's AppSoLewdly." Available exclusively at iTunes, the app allows fans access to uncensored content, including photos and videos made by Tyler. 2011

Twisted Sister honor a fallen police officer at a benefit show at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. John Falcone, a Poughkeepsie police officer, was killed while on duty the previous month. "We tend to do our benefits based on the proximity of the person and the place, the conditions, the circumstances, as it relates to us,” explains guitarist Jay Jay French. All proceeds go to law enforcement support organizations. 2012

Guitarist Ronnie Montrose (Montrose and solo) dies following a five-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 64 years old. 2012
