just curious, where did all that business about the FBI executing the warrant come from. the SEC filing only says a search warrant issued by the Federal District Court in Houston. any number of federal agencies could have requested such a warrant, though the likely candidates are the FBI, the SEC, FTC, Criminal Division US DOJ, US Attorney's Office, Treasury ie. IRS, US ICE, DHS and who knows else. anyway, after someone raised the issue somewhere, i went back and read it and it does not say FBI anywhere in what would be considered official type documentation.

what concerns me is that someone will suddenly discover it was not the FBI but rather another agency, make that known and now the nervous nellies will then think there are two warrants etc etc. does anyone have a way to verify what is going on here. there was a back and forth on the RB board over whether it was an SEC warrant. one person responded that it wasnt but rather the SEC initiating a Texas court (i think they assumed state court) to issue the warrant. obviously that is not right because the SEC would not cause a texas state court to issue a warrant. but the one guy seems to have assumed that since the the warrant issue was announced in an SEC filing that it was an SEC search.

However, since the filing does not say what agency is involved, and a google search seems to show uninformed opinions, my question is who the hell did swear out the warrant for the search?

the text of the sec filing is below.

On May 4, 2006, a search warrant issued by the U.S. District Court of the
Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, was executed on ERHC Energy Inc.
("Company") for various records including, among other matters, documents
related to correspondence with foreign governmental officials or entities in Sao
Tome and Nigeria. The Company cooperated fully with the government in respect to
this matter.
