Chipguy and WBMW, I am glad to see you two disagree. :)

I don't doubt that you are both right to some degree.

I would guess it will be necessary in the future to go multi core (edit, for desktop). Will the complexity of one core (excluding caches) not be mind numbing in concept to soak up huge numbers of transistors that might be possible going forward?

WBMW, you made some good points that the bleeding edge is not always the best bet process wise. Somewhere along the line Moore's Law will expire, at least in a practical sence. Cost/benefits will not support it. How near are we to that size?
