I have two very bored dogs so for excitement one of them
just came in from a short pottie run with his left ear missing
about a one inch (length) by two inch (wide) from the tip.
He was with the female at the end of our driveway, and all
of a sudden he turned his head, looked for a second, then
bolted through the snow towards the South side yard and
this put him out of sight as my snow-covered big GMC 3/4
ton pickup was in the way. Immediately heard a yelp and
he came running to the front door. Letting him in, I could
see blood so dragged him to the kitchen where fluorescent
ceiling lights would let me see better. Blood just started
spurting and I tried to compress the wound but this was
impossible. Plus I couldn't hold him. He stayed next to me
however so while I was racking my brain for ideas and his
blood was making a puddle on the floor, I was holding his
ear tightly between my bare hands. When I let go the
bleeding had mostly stopped. It has been a whiteout for
two hours and I would need to drive 20 miles to a 24 hr
vet hospital to get help and that isn't going to happen. So
I'm trying to just keep him quiet so he doesn't break it
open again. For awhile there I was afraid he'd bleed out.
Happy Valentines Day everybody.
