I've been toying with the idea of buying some one ounce gold, rather coins or bars makes no difference to me. Haven't bought any on ebay but have searched somewhat.
Your local jewelry store can get you the good stuff and it should be at market price. Takes the worry out of that equation and you get to deal with someone in person.
