CBP officers arrest 21 people, recover $688k in marijuana

YUMA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested 21 people and recovered almost $700,000 in marijuana last weekend.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection tells KGUN9 that CBP officers near Gila Bend arrested seven people carrying backpacks filled with marijuana on Jan. 5.

The backpacks contained $95,000 worth of marijuana and the arrested suspects admitted to entering the U.S. illegally.

On Jan. 6, CBP officers located and arrested four people carrying large backpacks after the suspects attempted to flee from the officers. The backpacks were recovered and contained $65,500 in marijuana.

Later that day, CBP officers tracking a group of suspected smugglers in the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge found four abandoned bundles of marijuana weighing 168 pounds.

CBP agents also located and arrested 10 people carrying backpacks. The backpacks recovered contained $283,500 worth of marijuana.

Additionally, four abandoned bundles of marijuana were found by CBP officers on Friday evening. The bundles contained $160,500 worth of marijuana.

Douglas CBP officers seize $49K in marijuana

DOUGLAS, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection have arrested a 33-year-old woman from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico after finding more than 98 pounds of marijuana concealed throughout the GMC truck at the Port of Douglas



On February 8, CBP officers seized the marijuana and vehicle, according to a media release. The marijuana was worth nearly $49,000.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations took custody of the woman.

CBP officers seize $254K in heroin

NACO, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested two Mexican nationals for attempting to smuggle 18 pounds of heroin through the Port of Naco.

On February 6, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred an Isuzu SUV, occupied by two man for a secondary inspection, according to a media release from Customs and Border Protection.

Officers, assisted by a CBP narcotics-detection canine, found hidden packages in the vehicle containing 18 pounds of heroin worth approximately $254,000.

CBP seized the drugs and vehicles, and referred the 28-year-old driver and his 22-year-old passenger to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Border Patrol arrests several at I-19 checkpoint

TUBAC, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Border Patrol agents arrested three suspects and seized narcotics worth approximately $263,700 at the I-19 checkpoint over the weekend.

According to a media release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a canine at the I-19 checkpoint assisted agents in discovering $35,000 worth of marijuana hidden inside a vehicle's ceiling.



Agents arrested the driver and seized the marijuana.

The following day, agents at the checkpoint referred a vehicle to secondary inspection after a canine alert.

As a result, agents discovered 20 packages of methamphetamine, three packages of heroin, and two packages of cocaine concealed in the vehicle's trunk compartment.

Agents arrested the male Mexican national driver and the female United States citizen passenger.

The drugs were seized in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines, and all subjects were presented for prosecution.
