It's fairly obvious that J. Mitchell Lowe was involved very early on (October 1997 to February 1998) as a consultant to a company which would later become known as "NETFLIX, Inc." in 2002. Mitch Lowe can rightfully claim that he is a 'co-founder' having been with the company prior to it's being called NETFLIX, Inc. and notwithstanding Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph making themselves as sole heroes in the story for filings purposes and because they may have had the original company name whatever it was prior to becoming what is now known as NETFLIX, Inc.

It only took about 6 months as a consultant before the company that would later become NETFLIX, Inc. brought him in as the VP of Business Development. During the time he was a consultant and VP of Business Development for the company that would later be called NETFLIX, Inc., he was also a founder of and served as Chief Executive Officer and director of Interaction, Inc., a video rental chain, from January 1984 to June 2000.

"NETFLIX, Inc." didn't become so until 2002 or in essence long after Mitch Lowe arrived on the scene and I'm sure it's no coincidence that the history of the company which took the name NETFLIX, Inc. is in no small part to the work and ideas of Mitch Lowe. imo

"While exhibiting at a tradeshow in '97, he met with Marc Randolph, and the two came up with the idea for Netflix."

Everyone knows that history is often written by those who win the wars although we all know these "winners" don't win the wars by themselves. imo
BTW - Ever wonder why it is NETFLIX, Inc. doesn't try and put a stop to
Mitch Lowe having all this recognition as a co-founder of NETFLIX, Inc. if they felt it was undeserved?
Could it be they know he was a Co-Founder in substance if not in "FORM"?
