TWEED SUPPORTS CCIC EDUCATION

As mentioned in a previous Tweed Vault post, medical education is an important priority for Tweed. We are proud to support educational initiatives locally, as well as participate in larger national events, all with the aim of providing education to healthcare professionals on the important topic of marijuana for medical purposes.

Another national program Tweed is involved in is the upcoming “Cannabinoids in Clinical Practice: 2015 National CPD Program”. Tweed, through the Canadian Medical Cannabis Industry Association (CMCIA), is sponsoring this national education series taking place on various dates in February.

This program is being organized by the Canadian Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabinoids (CCIC). The CCIC is a Canadian nonprofit organization of researchers and health care professionals established to promote evidence-based research and education concerning the endocannabinoid system and the cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids are the name given to a group of compounds that act on receptors in our bodies called cannabinoid receptors. Cannabis (marijuana) is a natural cannabinoid, and it is anticipated that much of the education in the series will be focused on the use of dried cannabis in medical practice.

This series will be held in five cities (Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax), and will feature a presentation by Dr. Mark Ware, a Montreal based physician with a practice focused on pain, who is also a nationally and internationally known published researcher on the topic of cannabinoids (including cannabis/marijuana). Each location will also host local experts who will discuss and lead sessions on the use of cannabinoids in medical practice.

This program is open to physicians and nurse practitioners by registration only at the following site: http://www.ccic.net/index.php?id=310,0,0,1,0,0

Tweed is pleased to have this opportunity to bring such an important educational program to cities across the country.
