Sequans Powers D-Link Consumer LTE Broadcast Device

PARIS, Feb 03, 2015 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Sequans Communications S.A. SQNS, +6.31% is providing its LTE chipset technology to D-Link, a global leader in home and office connectivity solutions, for the D-Link eMBMS TV Dongle, a consumer LTE broadcast dongle that enables users to receive high definition video content over LTE eMBMS, for display on their TV screens. LTE Broadcast or eMBMS (evolved multimedia broadcast multicast service) is an advanced capability of LTE whereby multimedia content can be streamed to multiple users simultaneously.

“Sequans’ eMBMS-capable chipsets have been proven in key public LTE Broadcast demos and we are pleased to incorporate Sequans’ technology into our new LTE TV dongle,” said GK Lee, D-Link Corporation Vice President of Mobile Service Providers BU. “With this new device, consumers will enjoy a superior video over LTE experience.”

The LTE technology inside the D-Link eMBMS TV Dongle is Sequans’ VZ20Q EZLinkLTE module, which is certified compliant with Verizon Wireless Open Network specifications and operates on LTE bands 4 and 13. It comprises Sequans’ eMBMS-capable, Cat 4 (150 Mbps) Mont Blanc LTE platform and all other elements necessary for a complete LTE modem system. These include an LTE-optimized transceiver, a complete dual-band RF front-end for bands 4 and 13, key interfaces, LP-DDR SDRAM, embedded boot Flash, and VC-TCXO all in a single, compact package. Sequans’ LTE chipsets were used to power the tablets of both Verizon Wireless and Orange during public demonstrations of LTE Broadcast technology last year at major sporting events, including Super Bowl, Indianapolis 500, and the French Open. During the demonstrations, participants were able to view live streaming video of the sports action delivered via LTE Broadcast.

“It is very exciting to see the capabilities of this new D-Link LTE broadcast device,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “When service is launched by operators, users will be able to simply plug the device into the HDMI port of their TVs and receive multiple channels of highest quality broadcast TV content.”

The eMBMS TV Dongle has been developed by D-Link Corporation in anticipation of future LTE Broadcast service launches by LTE operators.
