UCSB + University of Queensland joint "New Frontiers Workshop"

https://mrlweb.mrl.ucsb.edu/seminars-and-workshops/2015-New-Frontiers-Workshop

As a follow-up to our 2014 Workshop: "New Frontiers in Sustainable Fuels and Chemicals: What's Beyond the Horizon?," the aim of the 2015 Workshop is to bring together forward-thinking engineers and scientists from industry and academia to talk, argue, speculate, and dream a little about what might be possible if only we could ………. We are looking to have relatively brief (15-20 minute) provocative forward-thinking presentations to stimulate lively discussions moderated by a panel from each session. Our hope is to have discussions on processes and problems that are not presently part of the central R&D activities in industry, but that might be there in the future if major fundamental problems in chemical and material science and engineering were solved. Our present list of topics includes:

Trends and Scenarios in Future Energy and Chemical Product Supply and Demand.
Fuels and Chemicals with and without Nuclear Power: Opportunities and Challenges in Sustainable Energy Systems.
What large scale chemical products are possible without CO2 ?
Process Intensification: Reducing cost and improving sustainability through integration, simplification, and modularization.
Moving to Sustainable Processes: Evolving the old and/or starting afresh.
Big ideas that just might not be so crazy if worst-case fears of carbon dioxide materialize.
Organizing committee: Eric McFarland (UQ/UCSB), Craig Hawker (UCSB), Mike Doherty (UCSB), Charlie Campbell (University of Washington, Seattle), Chris Greig (University of Queensland), Dongyuan Zhao (Fudan University)
