I didn't realize ethanol could be burned straight in automobiles.


Ethanol: an excellent alternative fuel for any electronically injected vehicle using gasoline. “Pure” (fuel grade ethanol) represents the equivalent of gasoline with 100 - 102 octane rating. This means that an electronically fuel injected vehicle with increased compression ratio of 10:1 and more (ideally 12:1) will exhibit equal and even better performance with ethanol than with gasoline. Most modern engines will require minimal adjustments* to ignition timing to accommodate ethanol-only fuel without loosing any power.
