(OT - blizzard)

Most modern central heating systems die if they lose power. But a lot of folks have a separate gas water heater that stays functional without electricity.

So if you lose power and heat but have a gas-fired hot water heater, then here's a tip to keep you warm that I used in an outage some years back:

1. Crank up the temperature setting on the hot water heater to maximum

2. Fill any containers (empty 2 liter soda bottles are great) with hot water and put them in one room to act as radiators. Refill them every few hours. With enough bottles you can get a room pretty warm.

3. A tightly closed 2 liter bottle acts as a pretty good hot-water bottle for bedtime. It will still be a bit warm in the morning.

Good luck all in the path of the storm!

Peter
