My mom and dad were both raised as farm kids here in east tennessee...but also worked at public jobs as adults. We lived about a quarter mile below my moms parents and they had like 160 acres and raised corn for silage and hard corn...tobacco...had about 50 milk and beef cows...chickens and guineas ...pigs...a horse and mule and a couple goats. i was about 14 when they finally bought a small ford tractor to replace working with horses. We raised a huge garden and killed our own beef cow and pig each year and a plump hen for Sunday dinner every week. So i was also raised farming on that farm and helping other farmers for spending money when we had the time. Here is the one thing i do remember about chickens...when a momma hen is strutting around with her 8 or 10 chicks you dont mess with them cause you will get a floggin from momma hen that you wont soon forget!...LOL!
