The cedarmill 512K Celeron will be very competitive to sempron; but there will eventually be a core2 based Celeron, there are conflicting reports of whether the 2meg L2 core2 's are single or duo core, I guess they could be both, in any event a core2 Celeron will effectively devastate sempron sales which will be AMD’s bulk product for at least the next 6-12 months.

It would be reasonable in my view to replace Celeron with "Core 2 Solo", as that would be a clear indicator right from the brand name that it is single core and value priced, even though it is based on the very powerful Core micro-architecture. But I wouldn't expect Intel to launch this until Core 2 Duo has had time to ramp. They should start crossing over to Core wafer starts some time in Q1, and that would probably be a good time to transition Celeron and get the volumes up. So I expect a Core 2 Solo launch maybe in the March-May 2007 time frame. Cedar Mill 512K will easily be competitive with Sempron through that time.
