For a bunch of people who throw DD around alot, it surprises me that nobody seems to realize where that phrase came from. Part of any merger, aquisition is call due diligence. This is where the lead company comes in and examines every aspect of the company to be aquired. Not just the books but every single aspect of the company.

The time frame to completion of course varies. It is a legal requirment.
