While the sector will see more competition as a whole. The businesses that will do well are the ones that carve out a proper niche. I believe Arcam is a texbook example of that very model. Arcam is in a unique situation with a proprietary process and a nice patent moat. They are effectively a monopoly.

Remember that there are times that EBM is the ONLY solution. For example, lasers can't do TiAl. They can't transfer enough energy to the bed to fuse it properly. Arcam has the only powder-bed technology that can utilize this prized aerospace alloy.

The fact that EBM is faster is also significant. Especially as companies shift from prototyping to production runs. if EBM is twice as fast as lasers, then they can demand twice the price (ceteris paribus).

Now, consider that the biggest concern for Greg Morris has been that printer manufacturers won't be able to meet demand in the near future.

Arcam seems to be scaling at the right speed and I don't see demand decreasing in the next 5 years.
