My Presario came with CDs. I think that you're seeing the
difference in the sides of the house between Compaq and HP.
Unfortunately, their high-end consumer stuff is sold out
of the HP side these days. In the past, you could get similar
offering from HP and Compaq. The Compaq product line has
shrunk. At some point, I expect them to merge.

BTW, I went out and picked up some DVD-Rs. You can make the
recovery set on 1 DL DVD (we don't have that), 2 DVDs or
16 CDs. I think that anyone that uses CDs for the recovery
disks is nuts.

We're 1 third way through the verify of the first disk. My guess
is that the overall process takes two hours. Would I pay $10 to
save 2 hours of this stuff? I sure would.

Why they do this stuff is beyond me. If the consumer has a disk failure, they're going to scream up and down at tech support at being told that they should have made recovery disks when they bought the PC. It's something that costs the manufacturer close to nothing but can create hours and hours of headaches for the consumer if there is a problem down the road.
