Does he think that giving the chickens more room will mean they won't huddle at night? Or am I missing something?

Where I live, it often gets down to -40C (same temp as -40F) That is bloody cold. Our hens have one heat lamp in the coop. And they huddle, something they do instinctively. We also have a heating element under their waterer so that it doesn't freeze.

On those really cold mornings, we like eating porridge. I always make extra and bring it to the girls. That plus some warm water is always appreciated by them :)
