Yes, Andalay did revolutionize rooftop installation. That is why they are so suited to residential installs. Reducing installation parts by 80% and installation costs by 50% is huge. Everyone in the industry will have to have this or something similar (Zep) to compete.
Back in the early days of solar the installers were mostly specialty trades like electricians, roofers, and Heating and Air (HVAC) contractors. Many of these companies would like solar as part of their mix now, but cannot justify the cost of tooling up and training for what would be only a small portion of their business. Andalay has what it takes to penetrate this market.
As for the existing solar specialists.
Increases in efficiency of panels offer little reduction in per watt costs. But, 50% reduction in install cost offer a big reduction in cost and a big competitive advantage.
The only concern with Andalay is, do they have the plan and the team assembled to reach the potential.
