OK - there are these things call Financial Statements that companies publish. In those statements, investors are able to learn how much profit a company makes on sales. This is called "gross margin" or "profit." (Sales price - costs of goods sold = margin).

If you read GRCU's latest financial statements, you will see that they have a positive gross margin. (This means they make a profit on the products they sell).

These profits can then be used by the company to invest in new products, etc. Or, management can decide to use profits for other purposes. An example would be a share buyback.
