To make thing even more confusing:

Meridian could have said he is a LARGE stakeholder.

Would be more believable. Does it matter? No.

It's just like playing black Jack, people here trying to get an advantage in a "game of chance". Only the pros have better odds. Maybe Meridian is a Pro playing a bit with posters.

Either there is oil, or there is not!
