As you consider your year-end tax plans, we'd like to make sure you're aware of the latest IRS changes and how they may affect the cost basis values reported on your Form 1099-B. Your form 1099-B will be available on or before February 17, 2015.
What's New for 2014?
The IRS is in its third year of gradually implementing cost basis regulations. Effective for the 2014 tax year, these new regulations now also apply to options and fixed income securities.
If you acquired any of the following on or after January 1, 2014, your 2014
1099-B from E*TRADE will now provide cost basis values for these securities:
Equity options
Section 1256 options (as defined by the IRS)
Non-complex debt securities with maturity dates and single, fixed payment schedules
Short-term debt (with maturities of fewer than 366 days)
Real estate mortgage investment conduits (REMICs)
Securities from the Federal National Mortgage Association and the Government National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae and Ginnie Mae, respectively)
