Yes, there are hundreds of companies that manufacture semiconductors.

Fun part is to try and weed out the one's that don't match our philosophy.

IMO Bergen is a firm that has it's own lab and sells it's own products.

Your opinion is right, but Nelson isn't going to have 1 firm do the work.

Licensing:
Nelson mentioned a licensing model as being his strategy. (I think) that when you license something it's best to sign deals with multiple manufacturers. What better place to start networking than joining SEMI and collaborating with them. SEMI will indicate potential clients (within their network of specialists) that specialize in taking new technology from "lab to fab".

In case I misled anybody. SEMI isn't a factory somewhere in China, India or wherever. Nor do I care to guess between ABC inc. and DEF corp. At this point it simply doesn't really matter.

My intention:
This to me is a clue. Nelson will not march up to Sunpower, knock on their door and ask them if they are interested in manufacturing 3d panels.
