Competition, you ask...straight from the USPTO...reference the ERBB/Robert Tomassi patent that pre-dates ALL others...

Inquiring minds want to know...

I am not a patent expert, but, if appears plain to see, From the ERBB/Tomassi patent:

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6,711,465.PN.&OS=PN/6,711,465&RS=PN/6,711,465

This very first sentence of the patent says it all…”Vending machine having a biometric verification system for authorizing the sales of regulated products.” I assume that THIS MEANS ABSOLUTE, COMPLETE PROPRIETARY RIGHTS FOR ALL SALES OF REGULATED PRODUCTS. I read this to mean that if anyone that tries to sell regulated products such as Marijuana, or other types of governmentally regulated products, or methods of dispersion, will infringement of the patent rights that ERBB recently purchased from Robert Tomassi, the holder of the patent. Anyone that wants to sell regulated products, such as MJ edibles, medicinals, etc., will have to seek specific licensing agreements with AG...

Also, it is important to note that these patents are international, and AG controls all rights in the world for dispersion of any kind of regulated products such as MJ.
This is a game changer, for companies that possibly did not do their preliminary patent rights DD before embarking on this journey. Or, they have deep pockets and can afford to pay AG for infringement...and a licensing agreement...or, they might feel that ERBB is NO threat to them... This is AJMHO, of course, FWIW
