I would have to see the specific protocol being used to get too specific about what is being done to figure out the LD50 numbers Steady_T, and how they are proceeding to determine this figure. In part - they have already done some of this ranging to find target LD50s to test in the previous Toxicity testing done last year.

Short answer - it appears that A LOT is thought to be needed to cause acute toxicity issues.

But typically TOX testing is done only on healthy model animals, not on anything that has the disease or medical condition that the drug is designed to (hopefully) do some good against.

S0 - if you are trying to determine whether there will be any useful efficacy data derived from TOX testing of Flucide - the short answer is No.

Efficacy in model animals has already be demonstrated for Flucide - and fairly clearly it has a strong effect in lab mice inflected with influenza. They don't need to do that again unless they do something significant to change the formula for Flucide,.... and if they do that they have to start over.

There will be no data on efficacy in humans until some clinical trials start - either in the USA (pending IND approval by the FDA) or in other countries with different requirements once those specific requirements have been met. Phase I testing (or it's equivalent if started in Australia or Europe) is the first time we will get to see efficacy data for humans.

Below is a decent descriptive link for TOX testing in aniamls:
