Australian police carry guns but rarely use them. Only 0.5% of all Australians are trained and licensed to use guns.

Criminals caught in Australia with an unlicensed gun, or being unlicensed for a gun (which is all of them), face an over-the-top 20 year sentence, plus any punishment for any crimes committed.


English police don't carry guns on routine patrol. But they can call for police backup armed with guns, or their entire SWAT team, if needed.

In England where prison sentences are much shorter, carrying a gun while committing a crime adds five years to your sentence. You don't even have to use the gun to get five years extra.

We've run out of other people's Social Security taxes needed to subsidize our low income tax rates.
