Looks like Ariad didn't do too badly given that they had and continue to have more immediate cash needs. Their shares would likely have been tied up for some time after the public offering with some uncertainty about an eventual valuations and an exit plan. Seems like Ariad chose the conservative route rather than rolling the dice and waiting.
