With the very recent ACMA report noting that the number of adult Australians who have 'cut the cord' and gone completely wireless increasing by 33%, Ruckus Wireless which sells Wi-Fi access points to businesses, city councils and others has pounced in the hope of selling more products to Australian businesses and organisations - saying Aussies will be the 'ultimate winners.' Ruckus Wireless is presumably doing a roaring trade in Australia with a lot of Wi-Fi deployments going on, as seen in places like Perth's CBD, in Sydney'sLuna Park and elsewhere.
Pointing to the recent ACMA report, which iTWire covered here earlier this morning, Ruckus Wireless A/NZ MD, Pat Devlin, said "it is clear that Aussies have an ever-increasing appetite for data and content. What's really interesting is that we are seeing more Aussies cut the cord and go mobile.
"This is going to put increasing pressure on telecom operators, city councils and venue owners to provide wireless internet access.
"This is why we are seeing a number of Wi-Fi networks spring up rapidly. Wi-Fi is the perfect supplementary network to your mobile 3G/4G network."
"It performs better indoors than cellular and provides much more capacity for data hungry services. What is going to be really interesting moving forwards, especially in 2015, is when we see more Hotspot 2.0 deployments," continued Devlin. "Hotspot 2.0 delivers a seamless and automatic handoff between cellular and mobile networks. This will allow Aussies to receive the best possible wireless internet experience, as they will be connected to the network that is most appropriate to their situation.
"Whoever rolls out Hotspot 2.0 services first will definitely receive a competitive advantage, as it takes away the complexity for the end-user and provides an always best connected experience.
"There is no doubt that Wi-Fi is the perfect solution for the data storm coming from Aussies infatuation with, and insatiable demand for, more and better wireless data services.
"However, with a limited number of physical locations to deploy Wi-Fi hotspots, we face a land grab situation, where like-minded organisations prepare to stake their claims, whether it be operators, city councils or venue owners. The race is on. Who will come out on top is unknown but Aussies will be the ultimate winners," Devlin concluded.
