Mierto - This was a substantive development towards an end game. The Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee asked the FHFA director to discuss with Treasury releasing the GSEs from conservatorship. This sort of comment was prepared and polished, and is Washington speak for 'This is what is going to happen.' It was political cover for everybody in the room, from an outgoing senator who can pay any political price, because his career is over. The cat is out of the bag, and it wasn't accidental. Very highly doubt we see $2 again.
