I agree with you and I'm doing that almost all the time but when I try to close a spread for around an hour and it doesn't close I just close the short leg and let the other one expire worthless. Of course I watch it for worst case scenario and if something does happen like in this example the stock will go down by expiration around 40% than I will lose money, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen so I'm sleeping just fine at night :)
