Just got diverted to the Scottrade national phone bank as local office was busy (too many SLTD calls I guess) and they said they actually 'probably' make them available to shorts. When you open a margin account, there is a form filled out where permission is given or not given to allow that. I'm not sure what I signed back then. He said the limit order trick would not work. I have a good relationship with my local office and will call them later, maybe after trading hours today, so watch this space, Unless another Scottrade account owner can definitely pin them down!
