Thinking it just validates Globalstars' "Sat-fi" device, here is one more billionaire or billion dollar company trying to bring the internet to the O3b. Like the other posters are saying it's good to be first to market and Musks idea is a few years out. Iridium has the "Iridium Go" product which probably won't be mass produced till their $1.8B "next" satellite constellation is in place in 2017 the earliest. Oddly Iridium is using Musks' Space X to launch their satellites I think.

SatFi is scheduled to be a $100 device, hopefully for multiple users like the current version, by the end of 2015 with the new Rans operational at all the gsat ground stations. Think bringing/selling the internet to the other 3 billion people is the end goal of all of these companies. Lots of these people have limited means so the devices and services they will purchase need to be cheap. SatFi speeds from what I've read are expected to be 1mbps down 250kbps up, this isn't fiber but its better than what's available to them now.
